abstract

a simple, rapid and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been proposed for the determinationof vanadium (iv). the method is based on the catalytic effect of v (iv) on the oxidation of alkali blue bypotassium bromate at ph 4. the rate of decrease in the absorbance of alkali blue (at 572 nm) wasproportional to the concentration of v (iv) in the range of 100-6000 ng ml-1. the detection limit was 40 ngml-1. the proposed method shows a good selectivity for v (iv) over a wide variety of interference species. itis also valuable in that the presence of a 400 fold excess of v (v) can be tolerable, contrary to many methodsfor the determination of v (iv) which suffer from severe interference of v (v). this method was successfullyapplied to the determination of v (iv) in river water, alloy samples and several synthetic samples.

SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC REACTION RATE METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF NITRITE BY CATALYTIC ACTION ON NILE BLUE A BROMATE REACTION

A kinetic method developed for the determination of ultra-trace amounts of nitrite based on its catalytic effect on the reaction between potassium bromate and Nile blue A in strongly acidic media is reported. The reaction was monitored spectrophotometrically by measuring the decrease in absorbance of Nile blue A at 645 nm by the fixed-time method. The decrease in absorbance during the first...

Spectrophotometric Determination of Nitrite by Its Catalytic Effect on the Oxidation of Congo Red with Bromate

A novel simple, sensitive and rapid kinetic-spectrophotometric method for the determination of trace amounts of nitrite is proposed. The method is based on its catalytic effect on the oxidation of congo red (CR) by potassium bromate in acidic solution. The oxidation reaction is monitored spectrophotometrically by measuring the decrease in the absorbance of CR at a suitable λmax = 570 nm for the...

Kinetic-Spectrophotometric Determination of Thiocyanate Based on Its Inhibitory Effect on the Oxidation of Pyrogallol Red by Bromate

A kinetic spectrophotometric method for rapid measurement of thiocyanate in serum, urine and sewage water with no need for removed of interfering substances in described. The method is based on the inhibitory effect of thiocyanate on the oxidation of pyrogallol red by bromated and nitrite which is monitored at 467 nm. The variables affecting the rate of the reaction were investigated and th...

Kinetic determination of thiocyanate on the basis of its catalytic effect on the oxidation of methylene blue with potassium bromate.

This study reports a sensitive kinetic spectrophotometric method for the determination of trace amounts of thiocyanate. In acidic solution, Methylene Blue (MB) is oxidized by bromate to form a colorless compound. The reaction is accelerated by trace amounts of thiocyanate and can be followed by measuring the absorbance at 664 nm. The absorbance of the reaction decreased with an increase in the ...

Catalytic spectrophotometric determination of vanadium in seawaters based on the bromate oxidative coupling reaction of metol and 2,3,4-trihydroxybenzoic acid.

A new, simple, sensitive and selective catalytic method is developed for the determination of vanadium in natural and sea waters. The method is based on the catalytic effect of V(V) and/or V(IV) on the bromate oxidative-coupling reaction of metol with 2,3,4-trihydroxybenzoic acid (THBA). The reaction is followed spectrophotometrically by tracing the oxidation product at 380 and/or 570 nm after ...
